A new system has been launched which has the capability to send an alert directly to mobile phones, where this is risk to life.
This system will be tested on Sunday 23 April at 3pm when a message will be sent to all our mobile phones, accompanied by a vibration and a loud siren sound which will continue for 10 seconds, even if the phone is on silent. No personal information has been obtained or used to enable this, mobile broadcasting technology can deliver mass communication to a particular area, with guidance on the action required in response to it. It is intended to be used only very rarely in the future, and has already been used in other countries with great success where there was a threat to life during a fire, flood or extreme weather for example. You do not need to respond or do anything when you receive this message on Sunday, it is a test. It is recognised that there may be the need to opt-out of the alert system, for those in vulnerable groups especially domestic violence, and video guidance can be found here on how to do this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I2MBcHwmiy8 An English language Easy Read leaflet provides further, visual information and there are resources available in other languages for you to signpost to: https://vcsep.org.uk/resources/emergency-alerts-system If you have any questions, further information can be found here https://www.gov.uk/alerts and FAQs have been pulled together here Frequently asked questions about Emergency Alerts (publishing.service.gov.uk) Warwick District Council is appealing to local people to step forward to fill a number of paid roles to support the upcoming local elections.
