Warwick District Council has a duty to divide its area into polling districts and to designate a polling place for each polling district. Warwick District Council also has a duty under the Electoral Administration Act 2006 to review their polling districts and places at least once every five years. The District Council has given notice that it is to carry out a review of its polling districts and polling places starting Monday 2 October. – view the official notice here: Notice of Polling review 2023
What is a polling review? A polling district is a geographical sub-division of an electoral area, therefore, a UK Parliamentary constituency, a ward, or an electoral division. A polling place is a building or area in which a polling station is located. A polling place within a polling district must be designated so that polling stations are within easy reach of all electors from across the polling district. A polling station is the actual room where the process of voting takes place, and must be located within the polling place designated for the particular polling district. The Returning Officer for the election must provide a sufficient number of polling stations, and allot the electors to those polling stations in such manner as he or she thinks is the most convenient. The aim of the review is to ensure that:
The next compulsory review will be undertaken from Monday 2 October 2023, and conclude on Friday 22 December 2023. Relevant information and mapping regarding the current arrangements and proposals for changes can be found on the Council’s website at www.warwickdc.gov.uk/pollingstations or can be inspected at Warwick District Council, Riverside House, Milverton Hill, Royal Leamington Spa, CV32 5HZ. Paper copies are also available at Leamington, Kenilworth, Whitnash, Warwick and Lillington libraries. WDC invites comments from all electors regarding the convenience of voting at polling stations currently used for elections and would welcome suggestions for alternative sites. The Council would also welcome the views of all residents, particularly disabled residents, or any person or body with expertise in access for persons with any type of disability, on the proposals, RO’s representations or any other related matters. Anybody making representations should, if possible, give alternative places that may be used as polling places. At the event representatives from the District Council’s project team will give an overview of the findings and the necessity to draw up detailed revised plans to protect the medieval remains found. Councillors and officers will share the decisions that elected members will now need to make regarding the progress of this swimming pool. This will be followed by the opportunity for the public to ask questions of the panel. Warwick District Council’s Leader, Councillor Ian Davison commented: “The aim of this event is to bring the public fully up to date with the Abbey Fields Swimming Pool project. The significant, historic medieval remains necessitate substantial additional costs and time delays, so residents will be given an insight into the important decisions that the Council will need to make in the coming months.” Kenilworth Town Council Leader, Councillor James Kennedy added: “The town council welcomes this meeting and the opportunity to keep our residents informed of the current situation. I do hope that local people will come along to ask questions and find out more.” The update meeting will be held on Wednesday 27 September at St Nicholas Church, Abbey Fields, Kenilworth at 7.30pm. Places are limited and can be booked online by visiting the Warwick District Council Eventbrite link. |
